Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)

A non-invasive treatment option for depression.

Hobart TMS

At Hobart TMS, our team of esteemed psychiatrists, including Dr. Marzena Rybak, Dr. Yvonne Turnier-Shea, and Prof. Saxby Pridmore, brings decades of experience in the field of TMS. Since the mid-1990s, we have been actively involved in TMS research and have contributed significantly to its advancement. We take pride in being the pioneers who introduced the first TMS machine to Australia and established the world's first private TMS service.

As many of you may already know, TMS is a highly effective and non-invasive treatment for individuals suffering from treatment-resistant Major Depression (MDD).
With the recent introduction of Medicare items for TMS provision in the management of Major Depression (MDD), patients can now benefit from a lifetime total of 50 available sessions. Each course consists of 20 sessions, and this opportunity is specifically available for patients who have not previously undergone TMS treatment. Additionally, we welcome privately funded patients, as well as patients covered by WC or MAIB insurance plans, provided they have received approval for TMS treatment.

At Hobart TMS, we are committed to providing exceptional care and improving the lives of individuals with treatment-resistant Major Depression. Contact us today to learn more about our services and take a significant step towards renewed mental well-being.

To ensure the utmost safety and effectiveness of the treatment, we require referrals from GPs or specialists. However, patients will also need to undergo a one-time assessment to determine their suitability for TMS.

While there are exclusion criteria such as a history of epilepsy, cochlear implants, metal plates, traumatic brain injury, substance use disorders, and a weight exceeding 130 kg, we encourage interested individuals to inquire further about their eligibility. Patients qualifying for treatment will be responsible for a small gap payment for each treatment session. It's important to note that psychiatric follow-up is not included in our service.
